ORGANISATIONAL MISSION AND PROJECT OBJECTIVES

Organisational Vision

 “an Ireland that is the best country in the world in which to grow old in which all of us as we age can have an adequate income free from the fear of poverty live in a place that feels like home have access to health services that meets our needs be engaged as valued members of our own communities live communities that are friendly for people of all ages ”

Organisational Mission

The network is an independently convened leadership policy group comprising leaders and heads of organisations and critical thinkers who between them have the authority, responsibility or influence to bring this about this vision.

It provides a forum in which members come together in a Chatham House Rule environment of trust and confidentiality to:

  • reflect, test and debate ideas, sharpen their thinking and take soundings from other strategic thinkers with very different perspectives
  • influence the policies and plans of the other key agencies and in turn be open to being influenced by the widely varied expertise and disciplines of others within the network;
  • learn from leading international practitioners and researchers and from proven good practices across different sectors at home and abroad;
  • participate in ‘coalitions’ of interested in members in exploring new and effective approaches to realising the vision.

Organisational Objectives

The network has four key objectives:

  • Foster a ‘tipping point’ of support for reframing the ageing agenda, focusing on the opportunities of an ageing population and promoting quality of life and well-being among all older people
  • Influence the content and implementation of the proposed National Positive Ageing Strategy, aiming to have it based on this broader agenda and informed by the known needs of older people and the findings from reliable research;
  • Build lasting and good relationships between key policy makers, service providers and other critical players in the sector, seeking to optimise the alignment of their strategies and plans with the national strategy and the known needs of older people
  • Motivate this group of leaders and equip them with the knowledge and evidence to bring the ageing agenda into other critical national fora and to seek ways to co-operate together on important new initiatives
